About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist to join our team at University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust. As a key member of our Acute Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality clinical services to babies and children with complex communication and swallowing difficulties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work as part of the Acute Paediatric SLT team, across a range of specialist areas, including general paediatrics, neurology, complex feeding, respiratory, ENT, and instrumental assessment.
  • Provide regular communication and swallowing assessment and therapy to babies and children with complex needs.
  • Represent the SLT service within Paediatrics and contribute to multidisciplinary team service initiatives.
  • Support patients to have instrumental assessment of their swallowing and offer training and support to less experienced SLTs and other staff.
Requirements
  • Experience in working with babies and children with complex communication and swallowing difficulties.
  • Experience in working in an acute setting and skilled in using instrumental assessments (FEES and/or VF).
  • Experience in supervising and educating others, representing SLT in an MDT setting, and effectively advocating for patients' needs.
  • Experience in carrying out clinical audits, service evaluations, and/or research.

  • Degree or equivalent in Speech and Language Therapy.
  • Masters level qualification or equivalent experience.
  • HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) registered speech and language therapist.
  • Evidence of commitment to relevant ongoing CPD and development in relevant areas.
  • Evidence of relevant speech and language therapy knowledge and expertise with recent experience demonstrating this.
  • Evidence of post-graduate training in relevant specialty.
  • Experience of supervising staff.
  • Experience and involvement with training.
  • Ability to communicate complex information fluently, confidently, and effectively to a diverse range of people.
  • Ability to demonstrate a practical and sensitive approach and flexibility in working style when applying clinical judgement to complex clinical issues.
  • Ability to create rapport and professionally manage relationships with colleagues, patients, and carers and the emotional challenges this presents.
