We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Scientist to join our team at the Central Laser Facility. As a Research Scientist, you will be responsible for working alongside our team of experts to conduct research and development in the field of ultrafast laser science.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct research and development in ultrafast laser science, including the design, development, and operation of laser systems and experimental equipment.
- Collaborate with our team of experts to develop and implement new research projects and initiatives.
- Contribute to the development of new technologies and techniques in ultrafast laser science.
- Work with visiting scientists and students from UK and international research groups to set up experiments and solve problems.
- Develop and maintain experimental equipment and facilities.
- Currently enrolled on an undergraduate degree course and returning to university/studies to complete your undergraduate degree following the placement.
- Required or have requested to take an industrial placement year.
- Have the right to live and work in the UK for the duration of the placement.
- Able to commence employment in summer 2025.
- First two years of degree course in physics, chemistry or a closely related subject, with grades corresponding to a 2:1 or higher.
- GCSE English or equivalent.
- Experimental physics, chemistry, or closely related laboratory course.
- Ability to apply knowledge of science to solve problems.
- Understanding relevant fundamental principles from their university course.
- Highly motivated.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Good problem-solving skills.
- Responsible approach to health and safety.
- A-levels in one or more of the following: Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Further Maths.
- Computer programming and/or data analysis skills.
- Experience working in a research or laboratory environment.
