Job Title: Chief Scientific Adviser for National Security

MI5 is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Scientific Adviser for National Security to lead our science and technology efforts.

About the Role

The Chief Scientific Adviser for National Security will provide strategic advice to the Director of MI5 and work closely with the leadership team to develop and implement our science and technology strategy.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in science and technology, with expertise in areas such as data science, engineering, and computer science.

They will be responsible for:

  • Providing strategic advice to the Director of MI5 on science and technology matters
  • Leading the development and implementation of our science and technology strategy
  • Working closely with the leadership team to ensure that our science and technology efforts are aligned with our business objectives
  • Engaging with academia, industry, and international partners to access and influence the best thinking and innovation in science and technology
  • Representing MI5 in a range of forums and providing linkage to, and insight from, world-leading research groups, academia, and industry
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A strong background in science and technology, with expertise in areas such as data science, engineering, and computer science
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect across science, mission, and policy communities
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines
  • A commitment to diversity and inclusion, with a strong track record of promoting these values in your work
