Job Title: Chief Scientific Adviser for National Security

MI5 is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Scientific Adviser for National Security to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in providing strategic science and technology advice to our leadership team.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Provide expert scientific and technical advice to the Director General of MI5 and other senior leaders on matters related to national security.
  2. Lead the development and implementation of science and technology strategies to support MI5's mission and objectives.
  3. Collaborate with international partners and academia to access and influence the best thinking and innovation to address national security problems.
  4. Oversee the Science, Technology, and Engineering Programme (STEP) and ensure its alignment with MI5's strategic goals.
  5. Engage with the Government Chief Scientific Adviser's team and the Chief Scientific Advisers network to provide strategic advice on national security science and technology.
  6. Represent MI5 in various HMG fora and engage with the wider national security community.
Requirements:
  • PhD in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline.
  • Proven track record of providing strategic science and technology advice to senior leaders.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Strong understanding of national security issues and the role of science and technology in addressing them.
