Research Scientist in Mathematical Modeling

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to join our team at The James Hutton Institute. As a Research Scientist in Mathematical Modeling, you will be responsible for developing and applying mathematical models to understand and address complex environmental and agri-ecosystem challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and apply mathematical models to understand and address complex environmental and agri-ecosystem challenges
  • Contribute to the development of the BioSS Open Science agenda
  • Collaborate with researchers from other leading UK and European research institutions
  • Develop and disseminate best practice in open science
  • Make or support applications for external funding

Requirements

  • PhD (or MSc with compensatory experience) in a quantitative discipline with substantial mathematical and computational components
  • Experience of methodological research and/or development and scientific collaborations in mathematical modeling
  • Good programming ability to handle large data sets and develop and deploy scientific computational algorithms
  • Experience of platforms such as Github or GitLab
  • Excellent written communicator
  • Ability to work independently
