The University of Cambridge is seeking a highly skilled Research Associate to join the Soft Matter Group in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic team working on a UKRI-funded project titled Nucleation and Extinction in Non-equilibrium Statistical Field Theories.
The project aims to create a non-equilibrium analogue to classical nucleation theory for statistical field theories. The appointee will develop analytical and numerical tools to pursue a four-fold path, exploring rare events associated with phase transitions and extinctions in stochastic field theories.
The role involves developing research objectives, proposals, and projects, as well as planning and managing own research and administration. The appointee will be expected to communicate technical material, build internal and external contacts, and assist in the supervision of student projects.
The project is structured into four work packages, with the appointee primarily working on WP1: New Numerical Tools, and WP2: Nucleation in Active Matter. Contract extension beyond 24 months is possible for appointees with skills relevant to the remaining WPs.
The University of Cambridge values diversity and is committed to equality of opportunity. We welcome applications from candidates with strong familiarity with statistical field theory and large deviation theory, or vice versa.
