Geotechnical Engineer Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Geotechnical Engineer to join our team at a leading Northern Ireland Civil and Structural Engineering consultancy company. As a Geotechnical Engineer, you will play a crucial role in delivering innovative and sustainable engineering solutions across various sectors.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct desktop studies and site walkover surveys to gather data and inform geotechnical design decisions.
  • Prepare contract documents, including specifications, mini Bills of Quantities (BoQs), and testing requirements for site investigations.
  • Review factual reports from site investigations and create interpretive reports, assessing soil parameters, providing foundation recommendations, and addressing groundwater and contamination issues.
  • Coordinate with design teams for geotechnical design, offering options for ground improvement techniques and foundation strategies.
  • Develop project specifications, incorporating both external standard specifications and in-house specifications.
  • Perform engineering analyses, such as slope stability analysis, shallow foundation design, pile design, retaining wall design, soil nail and ground anchor design, and piling platform design.
  • Design temporary structures for deep excavations.
  • Follow company procedures in accordance with the Quality System.
  • Contribute other general civil engineering skills as needed in various sections of the company.
Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need a Degree in Civil/Geotechnical/Geoinformatics/Geology Engineering, preferably 2:1. You must also have relevant experience in Geotechnical Engineering, with good technical knowledge, proficient in the use of geotechnical analysis and design software, and an awareness of recent developments in engineering design and research.
