We are seeking enthusiastic and committed individuals to join our team as Specialist Teaching Assistants to support the development, learning, and inclusion of deaf children and young people who use either speaking and listening and/or BSL signed communication.
The successful candidates will work within a team providing specialist deaf education and family support for deaf children and young people, including working 1-1 and in small groups, both in and out of classroom settings. This may or may not include the provision of BSL signed communication support, depending on the communication preferences and needs of the children.
About YouCandidates must be able to clearly demonstrate a keen aspiration to specifically work with deaf children and young people in the specialist deaf education sector. We welcome and will consider applications from candidates who are not experienced in deaf education, but who have a basic background knowledge or strong interest in working with deaf children and young people.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, including a minimum of British Sign Language level 2. We welcome applicants who are deaf or hearing.
About UsThe post will be mainly based at either our primary or secondary school resourced provision for deaf children/young people. You would be supported in your role by a warm and friendly team: Team leader, Specialist Teachers of Deaf Children and Young People and other Specialist Teaching Assistants. Further professional development opportunities, guidance, and training are provided.
The Hearing and Vision Specialist Service is committed to safeguarding children and young people and this post is subject to satisfactory enhanced clearance by the Criminal Records Bureau.
What We OfferWe offer a range of benefits, including a competitive salary, excellent training and development opportunities, and a supportive and inclusive work environment.
We are proud to be recognised under the Good Employment Charter as an organisation committed to the wellbeing of our colleagues. As members of the charter, we have been recognised as a great place to work for all colleagues and pledge to pay the real living wage, engage staff in key decisions, and endorse fair and flexible working conditions.
