Job Summary

Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled Consultant Liaison Psychiatrist to join our Mental Health Liaison Team at Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and supportive environment, providing specialist medical/psychiatric assessment, treatment, and care for patients presenting to the Emergency Department and wards with functional illnesses.

About the Role

The Consultant Liaison Psychiatrist will cover the North West Sussex Mental Health Liaison Service at Princess Royal Hospital, working closely with the existing consultant and other services in the community to ensure safe discharge and follow-up support. The post holder will provide clinical leadership, support, and advice to the multi-disciplinary team, as well as offer training to professional audiences to improve the quality of mental health care locally.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist medical/psychiatric assessment, treatment, and care for patients presenting to the Emergency Department and wards with functional illnesses.
  • Provide specialist medical advice and consultation to a range of health staff to promote effective delivery of person-centered mental health care.
  • Provide clinical leadership, support, and advice to the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Offer training to professional audiences to improve the quality of mental health care locally.
  • Participate in planning and developing local Mental Health Services and contribute constructively to improving the standards of mental health care offered by Sussex Partnership NHS Trust.
Person Specification

The ideal candidate will be a fully registered GMC specialist with a license to practice, approved clinician status, and excellent knowledge in the specialty. Desirable qualifications include a higher degree in medical education, clinical research, or management, MRCPsych, dual training in General Adult and Older Persons Mental Health, and endorsement in Liaison Psychiatry.
