Job Title: Auditor

We are seeking an experienced and qualified financial auditor to join our team in Portsmouth. As a temporary position, this role will cover a 12-month period with hybrid working arrangements, offering a competitive salary and a trusting environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in delivering the Audit and Counter Fraud Service, working closely with officers and members at all levels to develop a deep understanding of the organization's strategic direction and challenges.
  • Provide expert advice on managing risk exposure and improving the internal control framework, conducting original research on new auditing techniques, particularly in data analysis.
  • Ensure effective communication and collaboration with key stakeholders, providing independent and objective advice on the effectiveness of internal controls.
  • Focus on key risks that may hinder the achievement of objectives, assessing controls to mitigate these risks and evaluating the effectiveness of existing controls to recommend improvements where necessary.
Requirements:
  • Professional accounting or auditing qualification with membership is essential.
  • Knowledge and experience in Public Sector Internal Audit Standards (PSIAS) and strategic and operational auditing experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of audit experience, including contract audits, with a strong understanding of auditing methodology and principles at a strategic level.
  • Knowledge of corporate governance, risk management, and internal control frameworks, as well as proficiency in audit tools, benchmarking, and quality assurance.
  • Ability to interpret complex legislation and provide expert advice, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
