About the Role

The Strategic Research Development Director will be responsible for leading the development, delivery and implementation of strategic plans to build research capacity and capability at organisational and regional levels.

This is a key role within the NIHR Regional Research Delivery Network (RRDN), which is part of the National Institute for Health and Care Research. The RRDN supports the country's world-class research system to deliver high-quality research that enables the best care for our population.

As a senior leader, you will have significant experience of working in the health and care research sector or academic environment, with expertise in developing national policy and strategies. You will also have excellent leadership, strategic thinking and planning skills, with the ability to communicate complex information to a range of audiences.

We are seeking a highly skilled individual who can drive forward our research agenda and contribute to the development of innovative solutions to improve healthcare outcomes. If you have a strong track record of delivering complex projects and collaborating with stakeholders, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and implementation of strategic plans to build research capacity and capability.
  • Collaborate with regional partners, including NHSE regional offices, ICSs, HINs, patients and the public to develop a 3-year RRDN Strategic Implementation Plan.
  • Oversee the management of teams established to support strategic development of research delivery capability and capacity, portfolio oversight and RRDN support functions.
  • Develop and lead complex projects involving multiple agencies and individuals to tight deadlines.

Requirements:

  • Significant experience of working in the health and care research sector or academic environment at a senior level.
  • Excellent leadership, strategic thinking and planning skills with the ability to demonstrate these in highly political environments.
  • Demonstrable ability to use autonomy to undertake actions as a result of own interpretation of policy and guidance, providing a source of expert advice to the organisation.
  • Ability to communicate highly complex, sensitive or contentious information orally and in writing, both internally and externally, to a range of audiences.

What We Offer:

  • A competitive salary of £60,000 - £70,000 per annum, depending on experience.
