Technical Support Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and adaptable Machinist/Technician to provide technical support for the department's workshop at the University of Oxford's Department of Engineering Science. The post is permanent and involves manufacturing, modifying, and repairing teaching and research equipment for the Thermofluids group. The successful candidate will also provide technical assistance to research staff, students, and visiting academics for their experimental programmes of work.

Applicants should have served a recognised mechanical engineering/technician apprenticeship, possess a minimum of a City and Guilds qualification or equivalent, and have substantial experience of working in an engineering Toolroom or machine shop environment using conventional machine tools and associated equipment. Familiarity with precision machining disciplines and experience in CNC machining and CAD would be advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manufacture, modify, and repair teaching and research equipment
  • Provide technical assistance to research staff, students, and visiting academics
  • Work in an engineering Toolroom or machine shop environment
