About the Role

As the Engineering Shift Leader, you will be responsible for the effective inspection, operation, and maintenance of critical facilities infrastructure, including Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and associated assets. You will lead the engineering shift team, ensuring safe, professional, and conscientious conduct among team members. Your primary focus will be on critical facilities risk management, enhancing the quality of service delivery through effective leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise, coordinate, and support the site-based engineering team, including internal and MEP responsibilities.
  • Operate all systems within the facility in a competent, effective, and efficient manner, including MV Switching Operations. Make recommendations for improvement and provide concise technical reports when required.
  • Control all activities relating to the technical and efficient operation of installed building systems, including all MEP assets and compliance with statutory regulations.
  • Prepare and plan specialist vendor works, ensuring relevant change management approval is submitted for all critical works.
  • Ensure specialist vendor worksheets are signed off where necessary, and the quality of work has been inspected and recommendations are communicated by the engineering team.
  • Provide backup as engineering relief cover in the event of an emergency, which may require temporary shift working.
  • Ensure the team and specialist vendors comply with contractual service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Key operator of the Corrigo CMMS system, ensuring MEP PPM, reactive, and corrective work orders/tasks are accurately completed within SLAs. Monitor progress throughout the shift to ensure compliance with expected outputs from your team.
  • Attend weekly operations meetings, client meetings as requested, in conjunction with Integral account management.
  • Contribute and highlight engineering risk and report on critical systems availability daily.
  • Complete shift handover reports, ensuring significant events or activities are noted and effectively communicated to oncoming shifts and management.
  • Control critical spares, including maintaining site stock registers, auditing stock levels, and procuring spares from suppliers if required.
  • Compile critical incident and near-miss reporting and after-action reviews.
  • Ensure all critical equipment operational issues are escalated immediately, in line with local site processes.
  • Review service reports of all specialist vendors, chasing any recommendations or follow-up actions with specialist vendors.
  • Produce site-specific SOP/MOP/EOP.
  • Assist the Chief Engineer in delivering critical infrastructure scenario training, taking a lead role in the development of engineers within the team.
  • Actively contribute to continuous improvement of safe systems of work, ensuring compliance with relevant HSE policy and procedures, including TBTs.
  • Evaluate specialist vendor performance issues, detailing accurately the areas of performance concerns.
  • Ensure technical and legislative updates are effectively communicated to all team members.
  • Maintain minimum levels of resourcing onsite, support the arrangement of suitable cover or replacement.
  • Liaise with the supply chain when ordering M&E components for remedial works.
  • Drive a positive culture within the team regarding personal development and training.
  • Coach new employees as part of the onboarding process for new starters.
  • Participate in engineering quality assurance processes to validate the standards of completed works, auditing 10% of completed work orders to ensure levels of quality are maintained.
  • Complete all responsibilities in line with the site-based MEP responsibilities matrix.

Personal Specification:

  • Minimum of 5 years' relevant experience in critical environments such as banking HQ and data centers.
  • HV Authorised Person (experienced with HV systems).
  • Electrical/Mechanical Engineering HNC or HND (successfully completed apprenticeship in either).
  • C&G Pts. 1 & 2, equivalent or exceeds.
  • 17th Edition IEE: Wiring and Installation (ability to attain 18th Edition through additional training).
  • C&G 2391 test and inspection; BS 7671:2001 for inspection, testing, and certification.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to deal with all levels of staff.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and direct a small team of engineers.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to attend on and off-site training for MEP assets, which may require nights away from home due to the nature of specialist training such as HV Authorised Person Training.
  • Ability to comprehend and act upon both verbal and written instructions.
  • Enthusiasm and demonstration of proactivity, diligence, and alertness, with the willingness to participate in appropriate internal training programs.
  • Integrity, honesty, and punctuality are expected.
