Climate Change Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Climate Change Ecologist to join our team at Charlesworth Kennedy Ltd. As a key member of our ecological consultancy, you will play a crucial role in providing expert advice and guidance to our clients on all aspects of ecological impact assessments, protected species surveys, and habitat management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct ecological assessments, appraisals, and surveys for protected species and habitats, ensuring compliance with current industry guidelines and procedures.
- Produce high-quality report documentation to document the findings of survey work completed, with assistance provided as needed.
- Assess and collate publicly available data and data obtained from local groups and centres as part of the desktop study.
- Provide ecological advice and guidance to clients, consulting with Principal/Senior Ecologist or team members as required.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest industry developments and best practices through private reading, participation in external activities, and Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
- Assist and mentor junior or less experienced members of the team in their day-to-day work and professional development.
- Provide high-level technical review of reports prior to approval and submission to clients.
- Support the Managing Director/Management Team in operational duties.
Requirements:
- At least two years of experience as a Senior Ecologist.
- Must possess at least two species licenses.
- Demonstrated experience in fieldwork, including habitat and bat surveys.
- A solid track record in office-based consultancy tasks such as reporting and mapping.
- Level 1 Class Licence for bat surveys, with other survey licenses welcomed.
- Strong botanical identification skills.
- Experience in Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) Assessments and using the UKHab classification.
- Capability to conduct regular fieldwork.
Preferred but NOT Essential:
- Membership of CIEEM.
- Level 2 Class Licence for bat surveys.
- Licenses for other protected species surveys.
- Experience in EPS Mitigation Licensing.
- Proficiency in GIS mapping.
- Understanding of relevant protected species planning policies, including the NPPF and local plans, in relation to development.
Remuneration Package:
The remuneration package offered at this stage is subject to the experience of the candidate, but will likely include the following:
Basic Salary: Between £25,000 - £50,000
