Chester Zoo is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Scientific Assistant to join our Conservation Physiology and Reproduction Research Programme. As a member of our team, you will be responsible for supporting the Science Department in maintaining the highest external reputation and credibility as a world-leader in one of the zoo's specialised areas of scientific innovation and research excellence.

Your primary responsibility will be to assist the Conservation Physiology and Reproduction team with routine laboratory work, including organising sample shipments, cataloguing and processing samples, running assays, preparing buffers and reagents, washing dishes, stock control, maintenance of freezer sample database, maintaining laboratory cleanliness, maintaining accurate and detailed records and ensuring quality control.

You will also contribute to specific programme projects, effectively translating scientific outputs on projects to maximise conservation impact and achieve Chester Zoo's conservation strategies and mission.

To succeed in this role, you will need to demonstrate a strong background in a relevant field, with experience in laboratory skills and data analysis. You should also be able to present information clearly and concisely in verbal presentations and written communications, including scientific writing and media communications to a variety of stakeholders.

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver research projects on time and to a high standard
  • Ability to present information clearly and concisely in verbal presentations and written communications
  • Ability to maintain partnerships and collaborations to enable project delivery

**Salary:** £25,000 per annum (pro-rata) to include pay award active from January 2025
