We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced BSL Level 1 or above professional to join our team as a Teaching Assistant in a mainstream primary school setting. The successful candidate will work closely with the Teacher of the Deaf to support Deaf pupils' access to learning, using a Total Communication approach.

The ideal candidate will have experience in primary school settings and be able to understand the needs of students with diverse social backgrounds, sensory impairments, and special educational needs. Strong oral and written communication skills, alongside BSL communication, are essential for this role.

The successful candidate will be responsible for facilitating Deaf pupils' access to the curriculum and helping them participate fully in all learning experiences. They will also promote independence in learning and other aspects of school life, where appropriate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Teacher of the Deaf to support Deaf pupils' access to learning
  • Provide support in both mainstream classrooms and the Centre for the Deaf
  • Facilitate Deaf pupils' access to the curriculum and help them participate fully in all learning experiences
  • Promote independence in learning and other aspects of school life, where appropriate

Key Requirements:

  • BSL Level 1 qualification or above with experience in primary school settings
  • Ability to understand the needs of students with diverse social backgrounds, sensory impairments, and special educational needs
  • Strong oral and written communication skills alongside BSL communication
  • Ability to build and maintain appropriate professional relationships with both young people and adults
