Embedded Systems Developer

Archangel Lightworks is a connectivity company that builds wireless technology for space-enabled networks of the future. We're passionate about enhancing humanity's communications infrastructure and solving critical problems related to economic inclusion and climate change.
We're looking for an experienced embedded software engineer to join our engineering team and deliver transformative laser communications technology. This role involves developing, testing, and maintaining embedded software in our ground stations, ensuring reliable control and autonomous operations, and interfacing with external systems.
Responsibilities:
- Developing embedded software for hardware device monitoring and real-time control
- Creating reliable autonomous software that interfaces with cloud services
- Contributing to the development, integration, testing, and operations of optical ground stations
- Improving software processes, including the development of automated tests
Requirements:
- Implementation and development of hard real-time algorithms and software control systems on embedded platforms
- Expertise in 'C' and Python development with RTOS (ideally FreeRTOS) and Linux
- Knowledge of hardware and networking protocols, including I2C, SPI, CAN, UART, EtherCAT, and IP protocols
- At least 2 years of commercial experience
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with multi-core and FPGA-based systems, especially Xilinx FPGA/MPSoC and associated tool chain (Vivado, Vitis, etc.)
- Familiarity with IoT and networking protocols (e.g., gRPC, MQTT, ZeroMQ)
- CI/CD pipelines, GIT version control, scripting, and test automation
- Yocto Linux/Petalinux build experience
- UML/SysML, especially with Enterprise Architect
- Interest and experience in the space industry
