Mental Health Support Worker Opportunity in Reading

We are seeking a recent psychology or criminology graduate to fill the role of Mental Health Support Worker and make a positive impact on young people's mental wellbeing.

The successful candidate will provide consistent support and encouragement to children on an individual basis, helping them achieve their potential through self-regulation techniques, healthy coping mechanisms, and identifying triggers in advance.

This position is highly beneficial to graduates wanting to pursue a career in psychology or criminology, offering frontline experience supporting young people from diverse backgrounds, many suffering developmental trauma relating to neglect or mistreatment.

The Mental Health Support Worker will be responsible for acting as a role model to the students and providing guidance regarding educational and non-academic challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide personalized support to children with social, emotional, and mental health needs
  • Develop and implement strategies for self-regulation and healthy coping
  • Collaborate with on-site professionals including psychologists, safeguarding officers, occupational therapists, and other multidisciplinary team members
  • Act as a role model and provide guidance to students regarding academic and personal challenges

Requirements:

  • Recent psychology or criminology graduate
  • Ability to work with children who have complex needs
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic environment
