Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Consultant Anaesthetist with a special interest in Obstetric Anaesthesia to join our team at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. As a key member of our anaesthetics department, you will be responsible for providing high-quality anaesthetic care to patients undergoing obstetric procedures.

Main Duties of the Job

The successful candidate will have a job planning session after 3-6 months of being in post to review their timetable and SPA (supporting professional activities). The proposed timetable will contain six DCC sessions, including two sessions (1 day) of anaesthetic provision within the maternity unit.

Our anaesthetics department covers two acute hospitals: Conquest Hospital, Hastings and Eastbourne District General Hospital, and the successful candidate will be expected to work cross-site. You will have the opportunity to specialise in anaesthesia for a variety of surgical specialties depending on individual interests and training.

Person Specification
  • Full registration with GMC
  • CCT in Anaesthesia (or proposed CCT date within 6 months of interview)
  • FRCA or equivalent
  • Higher Qualification: - ND, - PhD - MSc - MRCP
  • Teaching Qualification
Training and Experience
  • Experience of high-risk obstetric anaesthesia
  • Extensive experience in general anaesthesia
  • Able to deliver services without supervision
  • Experience in tertiary level obstetric unit
  • Experience in both major and day case gynaecological surgery
  • Perioperative Training
  • Engagement as an educator
  • Evidence of experience of service development e.g. QIPs
