Vacancy Details

Duration: Permanent
Location: This role is based in our offices, with the requirement to be in the office two or three days a week (or 40-60% of your working week).
Band & Salary: Band 3C £55,546 depending on experience.

As the National Environment Manager, you will play a pivotal role in delivering the environmental aspects of our Environment and Sustainability Strategy. Your technical leadership will help guide our teams to effectively manage environmental risks and opportunities, enabling us to exceed compliance obligations and enhance our overall environmental performance.

About the team This role sits within the Technical Authority working within the Environment and Sustainability team. This team leads on the Network Rail Environment and Sustainability Strategy, including Low Emissions, Biodiversity, and Circular Economy as well as Social Value, our key strategic enablers, and of course Environmental Management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain our Environment Management System, ensuring continuous improvement and driving the desired culture across our business.
  • Provide technical leadership on environmental management across EngineeringUK, to enable successful delivery against environmental legislation, standards, objectives, and other compliance obligations.
  • Monitor our performance against environmental legislation and objectives, proactively identifying and addressing risks.

Essential Criteria
Degree level qualification (minimum UK level 6) in environment / sustainability or other relevant subject (or equivalent through experience).
In-depth understanding of environment / sustainability legislation.
Demonstrable significant experience in managing environment / sustainability matters in a large, complex organisation.
Experience in implementing successful environmental / sustainability improvements.
