The Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Cook to join our team at BlueGreen Recruit in Wimborne. As a key member of our kitchen operations, you will be responsible for preparing, cooking, and serving meals and snacks in accordance with our approved menus.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Assist the Cook in their absence, including directing kitchen assistants.
  • Prepare food according to approved menus.
  • Support the preparation and handling of external meals, including pre-packed frozen meals, for meals-on-wheels delivery and production of meals for other units.
  • Verify deliveries for quality, quantity, and description.
  • Ensure efficient use of materials and equipment to achieve maximum cost efficiency, quality, and safety.
  • Clean kitchen areas and equipment to Directorate and environmental health standards.
  • Maintain equipment in good working order and report mechanical defects or environmental faults to the Cook or senior officer on duty.
  • Participate in training courses and attend meetings as required.
  • Perform other duties as required by the Director.

Person Specification:

Must-Haves:

  • Good food hygiene knowledge.
  • Practical cooking skills.
  • Experience in a kitchen environment with food preparation.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Able to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Adaptable and able to provide cover in the Cook's absence.

Good-to-Haves:

  • Basic food hygiene certificate.
  • City & Guilds 706 1&2 equivalent Menu planning.
  • Knowledge of ordering and supervision of staff.

Estimated Salary: £25,000 - £30,000 per annum.
