Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Lawyer to join our in-house legal team at West Midlands Police. The successful candidate will act as a key advisor to the Chief Constables of West Midlands and Staffordshire Police, providing expert legal guidance and representation in various areas of police law and practice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advocacy and Representation: Provide representation in legal proceedings and hearings before relevant Courts and Tribunals, including advocacy where required.
  • Team Leadership: Support the Principal Lawyer in leading and developing a team of lawyers and support staff within Joint Legal Services.
  • Strategic Objectives: Support the strategic objectives of Joint Legal Services by leading on the delivery of objectives and projects.
  • Financial Oversight: Support the Principal Lawyer in accountability for budget spend and/or financial oversight and accountability for their team.
  • Performance Management: Perform performance management of the team.
  • Risk Management: Identify and manage risk.
  • Work Allocation: Allocate and delegate work to the team.
  • External Collaboration: Work with external legal services, including Counsel, where necessary.
  • Legal Advice: Provide timely legal advice to all clients as required.
  • Case Management: Carry a complex case load, providing advice and advocacy as required.
  • Document Preparation: Draft legal documents.
Requirements

  • Vetting: Successful applicants will be required to pass Management Vetting and Security Clearance scrutiny prior to commencing their role.
  • Hours: Full-Time.
