Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Lawyer to join our in-house legal team at West Midlands Police. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing legal advice and representation to the Chief Constables of West Midlands and Staffordshire Police.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advocacy and Representation: Provide representation in legal proceedings and hearings before relevant Courts and Tribunals.
  • Team Leadership: Support the Principal Lawyer in leading and developing a team of lawyers and support staff within Joint Legal Services.
  • Strategic Objectives: Support the delivery of objectives and projects within Joint Legal Services.
  • Financial Oversight: Account for budget spend and financial oversight for their team, including delegation for settlement of claims and authorisation of expenditure on external costs.
  • Performance Management: Manage the performance of the team.
  • Risk Management: Identify and manage risk.
  • Work Allocation: Allocate and delegate work to the team.
  • External Collaboration: Work with external legal services, including Counsel, as necessary.
  • Legal Advice: Provide timely legal advice to clients as required.
  • Case Management: Carry a complex case load, providing advice and advocacy as required.
  • Document Drafting: Draft legal documents.
Requirements

  • Vetting: Successful applicants will be required to pass Management Vetting and Security Clearance scrutiny prior to commencing their role.
  • Hours: Full-Time.
