Rhino Conservation Role

As a Rhino Care Specialist at Chester Zoo, you will be part of our professional team responsible for the care and welfare of eastern black rhinoceros, Greater one horned rhinos, Philippine spotted deer, Roan antelope, Grevy zebras, and Indonesian cattle.

The role includes ensuring high animal husbandry, care, and welfare for various species with specialized needs. You will maintain enclosures and facilities to the highest standards, assist with animal training and handling, and administer medication under the guidance of veterinary staff.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide exceptional care and attention to the rhino population, including daily feeding, cleaning, and monitoring.
  • Maintain accurate records of animal health, behavior, and habitat conditions.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement enrichment programs for the animals.

The salary for this position is approximately £26,702 per annum, which includes 40 hours of work per week, 33 days of annual leave, and a range of benefits.

Requirements:
  • Proven experience in caring for large mammal species in a zoo or safari park environment.
  • Excellent observational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate with colleagues and visitors.
