Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized Healthcare Scientist Assistant to join our team in the Aberdeen Genetics and Molecular Pathology Laboratory. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will provide technical support for our genetic services, undertaking a range of laboratory duties, including preparation of solutions and media, culturing and harvesting blood and tissue samples, and extracting high-quality DNA and RNA from pathological specimens.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide routine technical support for genetic services, including preparation of solutions and media, culturing and harvesting blood and tissue samples, and extracting high-quality DNA and RNA from pathological specimens.
  • Undertake a range of laboratory duties, including preparation of solutions and media, culturing and harvesting blood and tissue samples, and extracting high-quality DNA and RNA from pathological specimens.
  • Work collaboratively with other laboratory staff to ensure efficient and effective laboratory operations.
  • Develop and maintain a high level of technical expertise in laboratory procedures and techniques.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of laboratory policies and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Appropriate qualifications and experience in a biological science or laboratory skills in Life Science discipline.
  • Previous practical laboratory experience, preferably in an NHS or clinical healthcare laboratory.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and patients.
  • Ability to work accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work as part of a team and adapt to changing priorities.

Working Environment:

The Aberdeen Genetics and Molecular Pathology Laboratory is a UKAS accredited member laboratory of the Scottish Genomics Network, funded by the National Services Division. The laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and technology, and our team is committed to delivering high-quality patient care and advancing the field of genetics and molecular pathology.
