Job Purpose:

To oversee the efficient and effective delivery of a catering service in a school setting, ensuring high-quality food and excellent customer service.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and execute skilled cooking activities, including menu preparation, portion control, and special dietary meals, to meet customer needs.
  • Organize and supervise food service operations, including service points and meal transportation, to ensure seamless delivery.
  • Develop and implement strategies to promote the catering service, increasing customer uptake and satisfaction.
  • Maintain a safe and hygienic kitchen environment, adhering to food safety legislation and regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation, including risk assessments and emergency procedures.
  • Secure the unit and maintain effective communication links with the school.
  • Lead and manage a team of catering staff, allocating duties and work rotas, and providing induction and ongoing training.
  • Manage resources, including food, labor, overheads, and equipment, to optimize efficiency and minimize waste.
  • Complete administrative tasks, including cash handling and financial reporting, to ensure accurate records and compliance.

People Management:

  • Supervise and direct catering staff, including allocating duties and work rotas, and providing feedback and coaching.
  • Implement policies and procedures related to staff issues, including attendance, discipline, and grievances.
  • Develop and maintain a positive team culture, promoting collaboration and open communication.

Financial:

  • Manage catering budgets, including food, labor, and overheads, to ensure efficient use of resources.
  • Monitor and report on financial performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing cost-saving measures.

General Conditions:

  • Comply with relevant legislation, regulations, and codes of practice, ensuring a safe and healthy working environment.
