Complex Injury Claims Specialist

We are seeking an ambitious and detail-oriented Paralegal to join our Complex Injury Team in Newcastle. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience in large loss and complex injury work, assisting on catastrophic cases and large loss claims.
About the Role
The successful candidate will work closely with our Lead Lawyer, handling high-value multi-track and catastrophic injury claims, including brain injury, spinal injury, amputation, and fatal claims. These cases are among the highest values in the market and are run to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare court documents, file and serve court documents, and diarise court orders and hearing dates
- Liaise with experts and counsel regarding CVs, fees, and availability for conferences, JSMs, and hearings
- Liaise with insureds and witnesses regarding attendance at conferences, JSMs, and hearings, drafting witness summons
- Liaise with courts regarding hearings, applications, and consent orders
- Register and update CRU, notify CRU of settlement
- Maintain experts' summaries, interim payment records, and offer history within the case management system
- Arrange appointments for claimants to be seen by medical experts, chase for reports, draft medical records mandates, apply for records and police accident reports
- Review medical records and draft summaries of those reviews using the records review spreadsheet
- Review photographic evidence and surveillance footage, preparing a precis of the evidence
- Redact documents to ensure legal privilege maintained and/or no GDPR breaches
- Field telephone calls and deal with general queries received from parties involved in the claims, including insureds, insurers, experts, and witnesses
- Arrange payments where required
- Conduct legal research
- Deliver agreed performance targets and quality standards
- Ensure compliance with the SRA Standards & Regulations
Requirements
- Good standard of education - 5 GCSEs grades 5 or above or A-C with established interest in law through further education
- Experience of and understanding of the litigation process, in a file handling or assistant personal injury role would be highly advantageous
- Good telephone and communication skills with people at all levels inside and outside the business
- An ability to organise and prioritise tasks using initiative
- Calm under pressure with the ability to re-prioritise and delegate effectively when required
- An ability to maintain attention to detail when dealing with repetitive tasks
- Self-confidence, with good literacy and IT skills
- Good team worker with the flexibility to do what is required to get a result and ensure client service levels are met
- Ability to work effectively within the Keoghs shared values framework
