This allows us to bring a technical, commercial, and regulatory perspective to support clients in resolving their most difficult sustainability challenges.

Recent Examples of Sustainability Challenges Resolved

  • Foresight: We helped a client develop a strategy for circularity of plastics, taking into account multiple stakeholder viewpoints and ensuring they had a strategy for operating in the circular economy of the future.
  • Strategy: We assisted a client in achieving systems change in complex multi-stakeholder systems, unlocking sustainability.
  • Net Zero Roadmap: We created a low-carbon technology roadmap for a client, encompassing current technology plans and newly identified technologies to close the emissions gap.
  • Appraising Alternative Technologies: We helped a client identify solutions to replace current surfactant sources and assessed their technical, commercial, and sustainability viability.

Key Responsibilities

1. Project Delivery

  • Lead and deliver projects that deliver business value to clients.
  • Effectively generate and communicate actionable recommendations and articulate key sustainability messages with clear strategic storytelling.
  • Write engaging reports, drawing on expertise from across several internal and external Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).
  • Manage multiple projects independently across different clients with minimal supervision to meet tight and very often concurring deadlines.
  • Efficiently and effectively coordinate and manage project teams, allocating tasks, providing guidance and direction, and monitoring delivery of different workstreams.
  • Manage project plans, including project set up, monitoring actual vs forecast budget and Earned Value (EV), invoicing, and project closure to ensure project profitability and highest level of customer satisfaction.

2. Business and Sustainability Practice Development

  • As a key member of the sustainability team, contribute to its expansion, developing new service offerings, producing insightful material to support the sales process, and articulating sustainability challenges through thought leadership for internal and external audiences.
  • Lead development of new proposals/projects in close coordination with the business development teams.
  • Recognize and understand how the sustainability landscape is changing by new policy, technological, and commercial developments and identify potential future client needs.

3. Client and Team Interaction

  • Recognize and understand the commercial, technical, and strategic factors and drivers affecting our clients and their potential impact on their current and future business.
  • Develop long-term relationships with clients, becoming their trusted advisor.
  • Confidently engage with a wide variety of client stakeholders at different levels from practitioner to C-Suite level executives, leading and delivering meetings/facilitating workshops, etc.
  • Clearly and articulately present project work at internal/external meetings.
  • Build effective working relationships with colleagues across Sagentia Innovation and its sister companies across Science Group.
  • Coach and mentor junior members of the team.

4. Adherence to Group Policies and Processes

  • Maintain complete client confidentiality.
  • Ensure adherence to group project management practices, policies, and processes to ensure delivery of projects on time, budget, and quality.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Master's degree (essential) or PhD in a scientific discipline (e.g., chemistry, physics, biosciences, environmental science). Experience of sustainability-related areas preferred.
  • Previous consulting experience (essential).
  • Experience of managing projects to tight timescales and budgets.
  • Have a passion for, knowledge, and working experience of sustainability, e.g., (sustainability strategy, circularity, emissions reduction, water stewardship, waste reduction, etc).
  • Ability to explain ideas in a clear and concise manner to both effectively communicate and create buy-in to ideas and recommendations.
  • Ability to efficiently deal with multiple tasks and prioritize under pressure.
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to work.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate good project coordination and attention to detail.
