Job Title: Principal Metrology Engineer

Location: Barrow-in-Furness

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Metrology Engineer to join our ICS Dimensional team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading the dimensional calibration and metrology activities, ensuring the highest level of precision and accuracy in our measurements.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the dimensional calibration and metrology team, providing guidance and support to team members.
  2. Develop and implement calibration procedures and measurement uncertainty budgets to ensure compliance with ISO 17025 standards.
  3. Conduct high-end calibrations and repairs on a wide range of dimensional test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment.
  4. Deliver and measure the effectiveness of on-the-job training and experiential learning programs for team members and apprentices/graduates.
  5. Participate in quality audits, achieving UKAS signatory status and driving the increase in issue of UKAS/ISO 17025 accredited parameters and certification.

Requirements:

Essential:

  1. Extensive experience working in a precision dimensional calibration/metrology laboratory environment.
  2. Understanding of quality systems and standards (ISO 17025/ISO 9001).
  3. Relevant academic qualification (STEM degree, HNC/HND) or equivalent.

Desirable:

  1. Existing UKAS signatory status for dimensional calibration.
  2. Knowledge in creation of measurement uncertainty budgets to ISO 17025 level.
  3. Demonstrable use of automation software (PC Dimis, Fluke Metcal, Met/Track, Met/Teams, Labview).
  4. Experience in mechanical, electrical, temperature, and other engineering calibrations.
