We are seeking a skilled Public Rights of Way Specialist to join our team at Central Bedfordshire Council. This is an exciting opportunity for a career grade professional who will play a key role in shaping the future of our highway asset intelligence.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Process applications for Definitive Map modification orders and public path orders, including those related to minor and major developments.
  • Draft orders and prepare opposed cases for forwarding to the Planning Inspectorate.
  • Resolve network anomalies using various order types and assist with creating new path networks following quarry restorations or cycling network expansions.

This challenging role requires knowledge and application of policy, legislation, and case law. The ability to negotiate, problem solve, think laterally, and confidently defend decisions is essential. You will work collaboratively with our planning and strategic transport teams to achieve successful outcomes.

Requirements:
  • A strong understanding of policy, legislation, and case law relating to public rights of way.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • The ability to work methodically and pay attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite and Geographic Information System (GIS) software.

In return for your expertise, we offer a competitive salary of £43,000 - £52,000 per annum, dependent on experience. You will also enjoy a range of benefits, including hybrid working arrangements, IT support, and access to training and development opportunities.
