About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Approved Mental Health Professional to join our team at Devon County Council. As an AMHP, you will play a critical role in supporting individuals with mental health needs and their families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out assessments and interventions under the Mental Health Act, including consideration under s13 and the making of applications to detain people.
  • Use Guardianship and Community Treatment Orders to support well-being in the community and Social Supervision work under Part 4 of the MHA.
  • Work closely with Local Authority Adult Social Care Teams, providing advice and support with complex practice issues where mental disorder is a significant component.
  • Contribute to Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) working, safeguarding meetings, and joint visits with Social Care staff.
  • Work closely with health colleagues in Devon Partnership Trust.

Requirements

  • Be a registered Social Worker, Occupational Therapist, or Mental Health Nurse with a proven commitment to professional development and experience of working with people in mental health crises.
  • Hold current AMHP approval, be prepared to submit a portfolio to be re-approved in-line with Devon County Council's policies, or be willing to undertake the specialist AMHP training course.
  • Demonstrate an excellent appreciation and understanding of the European Convention of Human Rights, be committed to the principles of mental health legislation, with a strong focus on recovery principles and awareness of the impact mental disorder can have on an individual, their family, carers, and supporters.
