Janes requires a senior naval weapons subject matter expert to conduct in-depth research and analysis of the naval technologies in service and being developed to fight future wars.

The successful candidate will work closely with other analysts in the Weapons Team to connect our data in new and exciting ways, helping to build up and enhance our world-class database of naval weapons content.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Conduct open-source research on all naval weapons, including air-defence systems, torpedoes, mines, uncrewed surface attack vessels and artillery.
  2. Deliver insight in many forms, from specifications databases and reference text to webinars and bespoke reports.
  3. Build relationships with defence equipment manufacturers and system users, attending exhibitions, conferences and events, representing Janes and gathering primary research.
  4. Peer review content with other Janes analysts to ensure the highest possible quality standards.

Requirements

  1. Educated to at least degree level in a relevant technical subject area.
  2. Knowledge of naval weapons operation and design is essential, with hands-on experience an advantage.
  3. Strong communication skills, fluent in written and spoken English, with a proven ability to produce technical writing.
  4. A good networker, able to build relationships with external subject matter experts.
  5. Organisation and problem-solving skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
