At Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE), we are currently seeking a highly skilled Manufacturing Innovation Specialist to join our team.

About the Role

This exciting opportunity involves designing and implementing innovative ways of working to shape the UK's future nuclear deterrent using cutting-edge technologies, processes, and capabilities.

The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience in working within a manufacturing environment, with expertise in engineering design and supply chain knowledge.

Working in a highly regulated environment alongside our design teams, technical experts, and research centres, you will identify, develop, and implement innovative solutions to support production operations, deliver continuous improvement activities, optimise productivity, safety, and reduce costs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Configuration management
  • MRP / ERP experience
  • Process and Documentation generation
  • Experience of creating and managing Route Cards (RC) and Technical Instructions (TI)
  • Experience of driving and managing Engineering Change Requests (ECR)
  • Project management
  • Supporting prototype build activities with new processes and supporting resulting evaluative and non-analytical verification
  • Knowledge and understanding of process control and problem investigation tools (PFMEAs, control plans, RCA, A3, 5 whys)
  • Identifying, developing, and implementing innovative ways of working, commensurate with a new product introduction (NPI)
  • Demonstrable experience in product development and developing manufacturing capability and processes
  • Experience of applying Lean Manufacturing Techniques, Value Stream Mapping (VSM), Statistical Process Control (SPC), Continuous Improvement, Quality Tools, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Obsolescence Management, and Model-Based Realisation
  • Experience in defining or updating assembly or inspection processes
  • Experience in CNC machining and casting
  • Design to Manufacture (D2M) experience of process, tooling, or equipment including requirements capture and presenting at design reviews
  • Delivering results and driving innovative change
