Job Title: Substance Misuse Specialist Nurse

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Substance Misuse Specialist Nurse to join our team at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The successful candidate will work as an integral member of the Alcohol and Substance Care Team, providing care and treatment for patients with alcohol and drug misuse.

The Substance Misuse Specialist Nurse will be responsible for assessing patients, gaining information about their physical health, mental health, social issues, and alcohol and substance misuse history to develop a plan of care based on the patient's individual needs.

The successful candidate will also advise clinical staff on the management of patients experiencing acute alcohol and substance misuse withdrawal, including detoxification medication and vitamin prescribing.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Comprehensively assessing patients to identify their individual needs and developing a plan of care
  • Advising clinical staff on the management of patients experiencing acute alcohol and substance misuse withdrawal
  • Liaising with and building strong professional relationships with other healthcare professionals to meet the needs of the patient
  • Screening patients to identify those at risk from alcohol-related health and social problems and undertaking appropriate interventions or referrals
  • Undertaking individual case management to provide immediate and ongoing support to patients who are unsuitable or unwilling to engage in community services

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in substance misuse, acute hospital experience, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. They will also be able to demonstrate a passion for working within the speciality of alcohol and substance misuse.
