The Opportunity

Our Southampton facility has a rich history in Infrared Detectors, dating back to the 1950s. We design and build our detectors and thermal imaging sensors in the UK, providing visibility and situational awareness in any environment.

We're seeking an Analogue Electronics Engineer to contribute to the development of our products and associated test solutions. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an ambitious individual to develop and grow their skills and knowledge within a thriving organisation.

This position would suit either an early careers engineer looking to enhance their skills in an interesting and technically challenging industry, or a more experienced engineer looking to expand their skillset and work on high-performance products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work on a mixture of product development and supporting test hardware, including requirement capture, schematic capture and PCB Layout, circuit simulation, and design review.
  • Collaborate with other engineering functions and manufacturing to drive the design process and ensure successful product transition into production.
  • Design and implement design verification tests and supporting documentation to ensure product quality and reliability.
  • Work with specialist technologies relating to Infrared Detectors, including electro-optic test benches, black bodies, and lasers.
Requirements
  • Degree in Electronic Engineering or related science (e.g. Physics) with some specialisation in electronic techniques.
  • Analogue circuit design experience.
  • Experience of PCB development tools and process.
  • Experience of DFx (designing for cost, test, and manufacturability).
  • Experience in System level and sub-system integration and debug.
  • Electro-Optics experience beneficial.
  • Knowledge of Matlab and Simulink beneficial.
Desirable Skills
  • Knowledge of device drivers and communication protocols (e.g. I2C, SPI, USB, Camera Link).
  • Experience of hardware design using FPGA components.
  • Experience in designing with video bandwidth op-amps for low noise applications and Analogue to Digital converters.
  • Experience in undertaking component selection and de-rating analysis.
  • Ability to work to recognised standards, such as MIL-STD and IPC-610 specifications.
  • Practical soldering/workshop skills.
