Job Description

Role Overview

GSL Education is seeking a qualified and enthusiastic SEMH Teaching Assistant to join our team at a SEMH School in Ashington. As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment, promoting the well-being and academic success of all students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with SEMH needs, both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans and Behavior Support Plans to address specific student needs.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued and respected.
  • Collaborate effectively with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to student support.
  • Monitor student progress and behavior, providing feedback to the teaching team as needed.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs is highly desirable.
  • A positive attitude, patience, and resilience in the face of challenges.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, colleagues, and parents.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in education, psychology, or a related field would be advantageous.

Safeguarding and Child Protection

The successful candidate will be required to satisfy all background safer recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS registered to the update service or willingness to apply for a new one.
