About the Role
As the Head of Workforce Health, Safety and Environment, you will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of the Region's strategy for workforce safety, health and environment. This includes setting the Regional vision and leading the activities necessary to continuously improve workforce health, safety and environment performance in the Region.
You will provide world-class strategic workforce safety, health and environment vision, culture and leadership across the Region.
Your key responsibilities will include managing an assurance team to continuously identify, develop, refine and implement effective controls for workforce safety, health and environment, organisational guidance, processes and policies.
You will also set and monitor key metrics for driving continuous improvement within workforce safety, health and environment, including measuring compliance.
Additionally, you will act as the key contact, within the Region, for safety improvement with both internal and external stakeholders.
You will oversee the delivery of the specific workforce safety, health and environment elements of the Route safety strategies and the delivery of the programmes to improve public and passenger safety.
You will provide technical input from the region into workforce safety, health and environment elements of Network Rail's Health & Safety Management System.
You will also oversee the development of safety capabilities across the region in particular workforce safety, health and environment professionals.
Essential qualifications include a degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, such as Occupational Safety and Health or Construction Management.
You will also need experience of working at a strategic level within safety, health or environment in an infrastructure organisation.
Experience of successfully leading a team in a complex dynamic environment is also essential.
You will need to have exceptional influencing and communication skills.
Significant experience in a health and safety role the rail or construction industry, or similar safety critical environment is also required.
Desirable qualifications include Chartered membership of relevant institution such as IOSH.
You will also need to have a qualification in the alternative disciplines to the main qualification.
Understanding of the performance regime and financial systems is also desirable.
