Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Specialty Doctor to join our team in the Psychiatry Intensive Care Unit at Fieldhead Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and supportive environment, providing high-quality care to patients with complex mental health needs.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical leadership to a multi-professional team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care.
  • Develop and implement effective treatment plans, working closely with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical policies and procedures, ensuring best practice and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in research and service evaluation, contributing to the advancement of knowledge and practice in adult mental health.
  • Engage in teaching and training, supporting the development of junior staff and students.
Requirements
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Minimum of four years' postgraduate training in the UK or equivalent medical experience, with at least two years in psychiatry.
  • Approved under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act or able to achieve this within six months of appointment.
  • At least six months' experience in acute care pathways.
  • Excellent clinical skills, using a bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty, making decisions based on evidence and experience.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research, or management.
  • MRCPsych or equivalent.
  • Additional clinical qualifications.
  • Experience in forensic psychiatry or equivalent experience with agreement of the medical director.
  • Experience working in other medical specialties, including general medicine, geriatric medicine, and A&E.

  • Demonstrate emotional intelligence and leadership skills.
  • Able to work flexibly and efficiently, prioritizing conflicting demands.
  • Able to effectively manage time and resources within a team.
  • Commitment to annual appraisal and revalidation.
Working Arrangements

This is a full-time position, with 10 programmed activities per week plus on-call duties. Part-time may be considered.

The successful candidate will be required to engage in Trust Occupational Health initiatives and act in a manner to protect the health and safety of patients and staff.

The Trust is a Smoke-Free Trust, and the post holder is expected to lead by example as a non-smoker.
