Primary Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will:

  • Lead and oversee the complete assessment process from issue identification to solution formulation, supported by written documentation.
  • Develop and uphold methodologies for conducting quantitative and economic evaluations within the energy sector, aiding both internal regulatory decisions and external communications.
  • Assist Senior Economists and the broader team in pinpointing and articulating our policy objectives along with the necessary analytical support.
  • Manage the collection, organization, and analysis of cost and market data to perform targeted assessments across regulated and unregulated markets.
  • Continuously monitor and report on the health of the sector through financial and sectoral data trend analysis.
  • Collaborate with economists and strategists across various teams to maintain a cohesive understanding of both regulated and unregulated energy markets.

Essential Competencies

  • Proven experience in managing complex problem-solving initiatives and critical thinking related to economic regulation and price assessments.
  • In-depth understanding of UK economic regulation, price assessments, and regulatory frameworks within the energy sector.
  • Ability to communicate intricate concepts clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, to influence key stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, capable of building robust relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Proficiency in prioritizing, planning, and delivering complex topics that necessitate critical risk and opportunity evaluation.
  • A genuine passion for the practical application of energy economics.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Economics, Mathematics, or related fields.
  • Experience in preparing or assessing business plans for regulated entities, particularly concerning cost allowances, performance metrics, incentives, and regulatory finance matters.
  • Background in managing complex economic projects or analytical models within consulting, industry, or governmental settings.
  • Prior experience collaborating with or alongside a Distribution Network Operator.
