Role Objective
The primary aim of this position is to assist the Risk Division in achieving its goal of protecting the financial and operational integrity of the bank by proactively identifying, evaluating, mitigating, and monitoring risks across diverse business sectors and activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Formulation of strategic risk direction, including the adoption of contemporary methodologies and processes.
- Oversight of the risk department, which encompasses managing risk personnel, implementing risk priorities and objectives, and ensuring departmental efficiency and effectiveness.
- Management of relationships with risk stakeholders, which includes identifying pertinent stakeholders and maintaining the quality of external third-party services.
- Compliance with the Risk policy, standards, and frameworks, while sustaining a robust control environment.
- Influence the work of related teams within the department.
- Collaborate with other functions and business areas.
- Assume responsibility for the outcomes of a team's operational processes and activities.
- Appropriately escalate policy or procedure violations.
- Take charge of implementing new policies or procedures adopted for risk mitigation.
- Provide guidance and influence decision-making within your area of expertise.
- Assume ownership for managing risk and enhancing controls related to your responsibilities.
- Continuously develop an understanding of how your sub-function integrates with the overall function, alongside knowledge of the organization's products, services, and processes.
- Demonstrate awareness of how various areas coordinate and contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the organization’s sub-function.
- Make evaluative judgments based on factual information analysis, with a keen attention to detail.
- Resolve issues by identifying and selecting solutions through the application of acquired technical expertise, guided by established precedents.
- Guide and persuade team members while communicating complex or sensitive information.
- Act as a point of contact for stakeholders outside of the immediate function, while building a network of contacts beyond the team and external to the organization.
Key competencies essential for success in this role include:
- Strong analytical skills with experience in previous analytical roles or a numerate/analytical qualification.
- Ability to assimilate large volumes of data and information, whether it pertains to a detailed case or a strategic change, ensuring that key information is identified, understood, and evaluated.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively articulate issues and recommendations to a diverse stakeholder audience.
- Analytical and data-driven mindset with SAS experience to leverage the Barclays Data Warehouse for generating meaningful management information and narratives on fraud trends and losses.
- Experience in developing and executing Fraud Strategies, including awareness of current trends affecting card fraud.
- Capability to challenge assumptions and long-held beliefs to support the business in implementing innovative technology for fraud prevention and detection.
- Understanding the impact of policy changes on a large customer base to assess the complexity for the company, colleagues, and customers.
- Strong negotiation and diplomacy skills to communicate to stakeholders the drivers of fraud losses and how changes—whether local or strategic—will benefit customers, colleagues, and the organization.
