About the Role

Carbon60 is seeking a highly skilled Carbon Specialist to join our team. As a Carbon Specialist, you will play a critical role in supporting the development and implementation of carbon management and reduction strategies for our rail programme.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Carbon Manager in the development and implementation of carbon management and reduction requirements.
  • Develop and implement procedures, tools, and systems to ensure carbon requirements are clearly defined and well understood.
  • Provide technical assessment and reviews for hybrid Bills and associated tasks, including Environment Statements, Petitioner responses, and Parliamentary Queries.
  • Work with delivery teams to provide support and specialist carbon management and reduction expertise.
  • Participate in the Natural and Built Environment team's wider objectives and work closely with them to achieve carbon objectives.
  • Provide technical assessment and review to assure that deliverables meet the project's carbon requirements.
  • Engage proactively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work with delivery teams to ensure consistency of approach, promote best practice, innovation, and value for money.
Requirements
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical specialists, non-technical project managers, and technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to technically assess and review carbon management deliverables submitted by contractors.
  • Ability to review parliamentary submissions as part of the hybrid Bill and petitioning process.
  • Ability to provide technical responses to Parliamentary Questions and Freedom of Information requests.
  • Suitable qualifications to degree standard, experience, and education to demonstrate a good understanding of carbon management and reduction principles.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the relevant legislation, technical guidance, industry standards, and best practice in relation to carbon management and reduction.
  • Membership of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment.
Desirable Experience
  • Experience of implementing carbon management and reduction principles within complex and medium to high-risk projects.
  • Experience of working in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience of delivering successful outcomes with complex stakeholders.
  • Experience of working with subject matter experts relevant to the role, including contractors and consultants.
