About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist with expertise in Metaheuristics to join our Operational Research Data Scientist team at Tesco.

As a Data Scientist, you will be responsible for validating, documenting, and presenting solution approaches and performances, as well as communicating complex solutions to non-experts.

You will also be expected to promote data science across Tesco and promote Tesco across the external Data Science community.

Additionally, you will drive innovation and take ownership of aspects of project development, helping Senior, Principal, and Lead Scientists and Product Managers manage relationships with business stakeholders.

You will also have the opportunity to mentor more junior members of the team and/or interns, and be involved in the recruitment process of other data scientists.

Key Responsibilities
  • Validate, document, and present solution approaches and performances
  • Communicate complex solutions to non-experts
  • Promote data science across Tesco
  • Drive innovation and take ownership of project development
  • Mentor junior team members and interns
  • Recruit new data scientists
Requirements

We are looking for ambitious individuals with a mix of mathematical optimisation, programming, and statistics skills.

Key requirements include:

  • Extensive background in Operational Research and metaheuristics domain
  • Project and stakeholder management experience
  • Scientific mentality with ability to ask and answer questions
  • Post-doctoral research experience or equivalent industrial experience
  • Strong programming skills in Java and Python, as well as familiarity with software engineering best practices and cloud technologies
