About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Cyber Security System Engineer to join our Fleet team at Porterbrook. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive cyber security strategy to protect our rolling stock assets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain a cyber security baseline assessment for each fleet platform, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Conduct regular cyber security risk assessments of asset modifications, identifying potential vulnerabilities and implementing mitigation strategies.
  • Promote cyber security best practices throughout our engineering teams, ensuring a culture of security awareness and compliance.
  • Support our customers with their cyber security requirements under the NIS Directive, providing expert guidance and advice.
  • Collaborate with the supply chain to ensure that both new builds and existing asset systems are resilient to cyber failure/compromise.
  • Develop and implement a Management of Change Procedure that takes full account of cyber security risk, ensuring that all changes are thoroughly assessed and approved.
  • Determine Fleet cyber security requirements for both new train procurement and existing fleet upgrades, working closely with stakeholders to ensure compliance.
  • Engage with industry bodies on emerging cyber security guidance, staying up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices.
  • Assess new technologies and products to ensure they meet our cyber security standards, recommending solutions that enhance our fleet's security posture.
  • Support the Digital Engineering department to ensure that asset data is appropriately secured throughout the data pipeline, on vehicle, during transmission, and at rest.
  • Work with the Safety, Standards & Environment team to ensure integration of cyber security standards and procedures into the Porterbrook Management System.
  • Maintain awareness of cyber security trends and how they relate to our assets, staying ahead of emerging threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Assist the wider Technical Services team with systems engineering support, providing expert guidance and advice as needed.
Requirements
  • Rail engineering background with a strong understanding of digital technology and rail-related cyber security.
  • Engineering or IT-related degree.
  • Knowledge of Chief Information Security Officer responsibilities (desirable but not mandatory).
  • Cyber security of rolling stock assets.
  • Data security.
  • Rolling Stock Systems Engineering (desirable but not mandatory).
  • Project management.
