Job Description

About the Role:

GSL Education is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Primary SEN Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with special educational needs in a thriving York school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support a Primary aged pupil with special educational needs, focusing on speech, language and communication needs, on a 1:1 basis.
  • Implement pre-planned work by the main class teacher, utilizing initiative to enable the pupil to access learning activities.
  • Monitor and adapt to the pupil's learning style, utilizing their interests to engage them in learning activities.
  • Promote speech, language and communication skills through the use of Picture Exchange Communication System (PECs).
  • Develop expressive and receptive language, social and emotional skills, setting the pupil up for success in their educational journey.
  • Collaborate with Speech and Language Therapists and school staff to enhance student learning and progress.

Requirements:

  • Experience supporting children, young people, or adults with speech, language and communication needs.
  • Familiarity with the Primary Curriculum and awareness of Phonics programs such as Letters and Sounds, Jolly Phonics, and Read, Write Inc.
  • Ability to prioritize children's needs, be proactive, imaginative, and supportive.
  • Effective communication skills to work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, other professionals, and parents.
  • Awareness and understanding of child development and children's personal development needs.
