Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor

About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to join our team as a Vehicle Chargehand at First Bus. As a key member of our engineering team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the efficient operation of our fleet of vehicles.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor the daily running of the depot and supervise engineering staff in the absence of the Workshop Planner and Engineering Supervisor.
- Take the lead on shift with IT systems and support all staff, ensuring diagnostic equipment is operational.
- Carry out in-process checks on staff to ensure quality and company policies are being adhered to.
- Perform repairs and diagnosis on vehicles as required.
- Comply with all HS&E legislation and First Group policies.
- Provide guidance to other staff as required.
- Allocate planned and unplanned work to engineering staff.
- Manage labour overtime in line with set authorisation limits, as set by the Engineering Manager.
- Update the engineering vehicle status board and daily garage log to reflect any changes.
- Liaise with the operations department to deal with changeovers and breakdowns, minimising lost mileage.
- In the absence of the Cleaning Supervisor, manage vehicle cleaning, fuelling, oil checks, and parking.
- Process vehicle defect cards in line with engineering standard operating procedures.
- Take digital photographs of any vehicle involved in a third-party incident, as required.
Requirements
- Minimum level 3 NVQ standard or equivalent in a relevant Vehicle Repair subject (HGV/LGV, car, or van).
- Familiarity with the safe operation of workshop equipment.
- Experience with IT systems, diagnostics, and a full PCV licence.
- A full driving licence.
