About the Role

As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our mechanical team. This includes supervising staff, managing IT systems, and ensuring the efficiency of our workshop.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor the daily running of the depot and supervise engineering staff in the absence of the Workshop Planner and Engineering Supervisor.
  • Take the lead on shift with all IT systems and support staff to ensure diagnostic equipment is operational.
  • Carry out in-process checks to ensure quality and company policies are being adhered to.
  • Perform repairs and diagnosis on vehicles as required.
  • Comply with all HS&E legislation and First Group policies.
  • Provide guidance to other staff as needed.
  • Allocate planned and unplanned work to engineering staff.
  • Manage labour overtime within set authorisation limits.
  • Update the engineering vehicle status board and daily garage log to reflect any changes.
  • Liaise with the operations department to deal with changeovers and breakdowns.
  • Manage vehicle cleaning, fuelling, oil checks, and parking in the absence of the Cleaning Supervisor.
  • Process vehicle defect cards in line with engineering standard operating procedures.

Requirements

  • Minimum level 3 NVQ standard or equivalent in a relevant Vehicle Repair subject.
  • Full conversance with the safe operation of workshop equipment.
  • Experience with IT systems, diagnostics, and a full PCV licence.
  • Full driving licence.
