Position Overview

NHS Scotland is in search of a proactive and skilled pharmacist to enhance our pharmacy aseptic services, which play a vital role in ensuring safe and effective patient care. The successful candidate will collaborate with the Lead Pharmacist and the senior aseptic team to oversee, develop, and evaluate aseptic dispensing services. Additionally, the post holder will serve as the deputy to the Accountable Pharmacist within the centralized aseptic unit.

The ideal applicant will possess substantial post-registration experience in hospital pharmacy, particularly within clinical or technical specialties, and have extensive knowledge and practical experience in aseptic services. This role requires a thorough understanding of national standards, guidelines, and regulations relevant to the field. The candidate will work closely with the Chief Pharmacy Technician and the Accountable Pharmacist to manage, develop, and mentor the aseptic team as well as the broader pharmacy workforce. A clinical commitment may be arranged based on the candidate's interests, experience, and work schedule.

This is an exciting opportunity within NHS Scotland as we expand the roles of our pharmacy team and develop future plans for our services. The successful candidate will contribute to the planning of a new aseptic preparation unit.

Key Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Pharmacy
  • Registered member of the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Demonstrable clinical knowledge equivalent to a higher degree or diploma in clinical pharmacy
  • Evidence of training and professional development in aseptic services
  • A minimum of 4 years of post-registration experience in hospital clinical pharmacy
  • At least 2 years of experience in an aseptic unit
  • Clinical experience with relevant patient groups
  • Experience in delivering training and education at the postgraduate level
  • Proven ability to utilize clinical audits to enhance practice
  • Experience in supervising staff and providing patient education
  • Ability to identify and prioritize clinical tasks
  • Understanding of national and local healthcare priorities
  • Capability to work independently and evaluate personal performance
  • Strong teamwork skills in a pharmacy and multidisciplinary environment
Contract Details

This is a permanent, part-time position requiring 29.7 hours per week. The working schedule is typically 4 days from Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
