London Greater, United Kingdom ROYAL COLLEGE OF MUSIC Full time

The Royal College of Music Museum oversees a significant collection of approximately 14,000 artifacts that chronicle the evolution and performance of music from the 15th to the 20th century. This accredited institution recently transitioned to newly designed facilities, enhancing its capacity for research and public engagement.

The Wolfson Centre in Music and Material Culture is dedicated to fostering access and inquiry into the collections, focusing on non-textual sources relevant to music history and practice. This includes the initiation of both internally and externally funded projects that explore historical and contemporary practices, as well as innovative methodologies for documenting, interpreting, and sharing material musical heritage.

The Centre actively promotes access to the Museum's collections for research and educational purposes, collaborating with both national and international partners to advance knowledge and disseminate findings related to musical heritage.

The Museum Research Coordinator will be responsible for managing access to the collections, collaborating closely with the Curator to develop research initiatives, dissemination strategies, and grant proposals, as well as producing research outputs.

Ideal candidates will possess the following qualifications:

  • A proven history of outstanding research in the fields of music and material culture, including organology, iconography, and other aspects of music-related non-textual sources.
  • A strong commitment to research and knowledge dissemination, evidenced by publications, conference participation, and educational activities.
  • An enthusiasm for sharing research findings with both specialized and general audiences through various formats, including in-person events and digital platforms.
  • An organized and detail-oriented approach, capable of delivering high-quality results while managing multiple responsibilities.

This position is offered on a permanent, part-time basis.
