Key Responsibilities- Assessment and Goal Setting: Conduct thorough assessments of patients' abilities and collaborate with them to set realistic goals for regaining independence in daily activities.
- Treatment Planning: Develop personalized plans to address patients' specific needs, including:
- Training in Activities of Daily Living (ADL) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL)
- Recommendations for adaptive equipment and technology
- Modifications to home and work environments
- Therapeutic Interventions: Implement various techniques, including:
- Exercise and physical activity programs
- Cognitive rehabilitation
- Compensatory strategies for physical limitations
- Education on energy conservation and pacing
- Pain Management: Help patients manage chronic pain through various techniques.
- Rehabilitation and Health Promotion: Assist patients in regaining independence in daily activities after injury or illness, and educate them on healthy lifestyle choices, injury prevention, and wellness strategies.
- Collaboration and Documentation: Work with interdisciplinary teams, including doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, and maintain accurate records of patient assessments, treatments, and progress.
- Continuous Learning: Stay updated with best practices, research, and professional development opportunities.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A degree in Occupational Therapy
- Registration with the relevant professional body
- Experience working with patients with a range of conditions and abilities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work as part of a team
