About the Role

Oxford Nanopore Technologies is a leading biotechnology company that specializes in the development of innovative sequencing technologies. Our mission is to enable the analysis of any living thing, by anyone, anywhere.

We are seeking a highly skilled Bioinformatician to join our Sample Technology team, within the R&D department. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving revenue growth through the research and development of tools, techniques, and workflows that customers apply with our disruptive sequencing devices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement bioinformatic pipelines to analyze large next-generation sequencing data sets.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and execute experimental workflows, from concept to execution, analysis, and presentation of results.
  • Design and develop software tools and workflows to support the analysis of genomic data.
  • Work closely with wet lab scientists to develop and implement new sequencing technologies.
  • Contribute to the development of best practices and guidelines for the use of our sequencing technologies.
Requirements
  • PhD in a Biological Science or Computer Science with a substantial bioinformatics component, or equivalent experience.
  • Practical experience with handling and analyzing large next-generation sequencing data sets.
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g. Python, R), workflow management systems (e.g. NextFlow, Snakemake), and software development practices (e.g. version control).
  • Strong understanding of genomics, molecular biology, and bioinformatics principles.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Desirable Skills
  • Experience with long-read sequencing data (e.g. genomic DNA, cDNA, single cell).
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully deliver projects as a member of a team.
  • Experience publishing or releasing own NGS tools or workflows.
  • Hands-on wet lab experience or a track record of interaction with wet lab scientists.
  • Proven scientific literacy and writing skills.
  • Experience presenting scientific results to varied scientific audiences.
